雖然常被當作淡水米蝦,但其實歸類在海水會開炮的槍蝦科(Alpheidae),產地臺灣,保持適溫就非常好養。飼養環境和蘇蝦相近,高硬度下反而適應更好,分佈於台灣南部廢棄魚塭或與海相通的溝渠內都有機會捕獲。

可在淡水飼養,但本身其實為廣域蝦,飼養過程很容易抱蛋但不易見苗,如海水槍蝦的親戚般,都是鬥雞眼的感覺XD.
